BEST HIKES FOR FAMILIES

There are about 11 miles of trails. The most popular trail is the summit trail. It's less than a mile, but as the name suggests, you are going up to the summit of Enchanted Rock. Children probably won't have difficulty running up the trail, but if you have knee issues, take your time. Consider a hiking stick and take breaks.

BEST TIPS FOR KIDS

Enchanted Rock has a junior ranger program that kids can participate in and earn a badge.

Consider taking a ranger-led hike up the summit trail. You'll learn a lot and once you get to the top of enchanted lake, look for rare vernal pool lakes at the top. Be careful not to disturb them but kids will enjoy looking at the fairy shrimp inside.

Enchanted Rock is a popular place for climbers and kids might enjoy watching climbing groups. There are a number of guides and outfitters that lead climbing tours. Their contact Information is on the page homepage.

At night, enjoy stargazing at the park. Though located near Fredericksburg, the park is still far enough away from big city lights and a good place to look up and enjoy the stars.
