Gateway Arch National Park is more than just the arch (though the arch is pretty cool). It is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson's westward expansion and the pioneers that settled it. It's also a memorial to Dred Scott, who sued for his freedom.
WHAT TO SEE
In 2018, a new museum and visitor center opened at Gateway Arch Museum. The new visitor center has exhibits on US westward expansion, about the local history of St. Louis as well as exhibits about the design and engineering of the arch. Across the street, the Old Courthouse has restored courtrooms, exhibit galleries and ranger talks as well as a film about Dred and Harriet Scott case. Visitors can also purchase tickets to go up the arch at the visitor center.

Gateway Arch Museum is located in downtown St. Louis, close to a number of hotels.
WHERE TO EAT
Arch Cafe is located in the visitor. Outside on the riverboat dock, visitors can buy burgers, sandwiches and snacks at the Paddlewheel Cafe.
